Day 18 – Shelf Neighbours
I honestly have no idea where in a bookstore “Edge of Glory” would live other than the fiction section somewhere. It was merely an idea I ran with, not really considering this.
Day 19 – A Favourite Word
But I have so many! Like, a whole Pinterest board dedicated to words I find fascinating and want to use. Some favourites are:
Vespertine
Crystalline
Scintillate
Sombrous
Whimsical
Disenthrall
Hues
Estrange
Unruly
Day 20 – Setting
As we divulge into Lindsay’s young life, we find her having grown up in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, a real city in Southern Alberta of just under 100,000 people. Lethbridge is known for the High Level Bridge, the largest railway structure in this country. It’s massive, at over 5,000 feet long and rises over 300 feet above the Old Man River which courses through the city’s scenic river bottom. Lethbridge is surrounded by various small towns, has a small but bustling music scene. Canadian Idol Theo Tams is from Coaldale, a small town about 20 minutes outside of Lethbridge.
I felt Lethbridge, a city I personally have lived near for about nine years, was a change from the usual musician characters being from either a large city or a tiny town. It’s right in between the two.
Day 21 – Week 3 Check-in
Okay, caught up again! Goodness, I don’t have a lot of time to finish these remaining chapters of Book One but I’ll do it! I get caught up in adventures on my weekends when I should be writing. I am a distracted writer. I am still posting new scene ideas for Book Two on my idea boards. Have some character development ideas already to update the profiles with. I didn’t realize it was already so close to the end of the month! But it’s encouraging to look at my current idea board and only have a few index cards left hanging there where it used to be full.
I’m so thrilled. I haven’t finished a complete novel since a prior draft of “Edge of Glory”, which was about two or three years ago. Before that, it would have been a fantasy book I wrote back in 2012. It’s definitely time to be finishing another one and getting it published. I want to self-publish the first book and that will probably be in spring, by the time I let it rest before editing, then send it to my editor and then get all the publishing details in order. This is my life. My passion. My obsession.
I’m pumped for NaNoWriMo. I have myself well psyched up for 1667 words per day. After this hellish last year I’ve had, I am disenthralled to be getting back to myself and to writing. This is what makes me crawl back from my storms every time. What makes me rise up to adversity. Where all my broken pieces, dreams, and feelings get freely poured into like my morning coffee into my favourite mug.
To some, it’s just writing. To me, it’s my comeback this year.
